Our programs strengthen families and provide a family for children who don’t have one.

We do this through 3 projects

THE BABY PROJECT

A World Where There Is A Family For Every Child

BABIES
AGED 0-2

When a babies mum dies in childbirth, or the mum is too sick to breastfeed, Pamoja Leo steps in to provide lifesaving formula milk and support to the baby & their families.

  • Life saving formula milk, preventing malnutrition
  • Identifying family to care for the baby, preventing the baby from ever having to go to an orphanage for care
  • Ongoing weekly support with milk, materials, counseling and a peer network of amazing women choosing to mother vulnerable children.

FAMILY FIRST

A World Where There Is A Family For Every Child

CHILDREN
AGED 2-6

We work with orphaned, abandoned, vulnerable and abused children ages 2-6 to grow up in families, so they get the love and support they need to heal and grow. 

  • We empower women to mother and care for children and get the support they need.
  • We give milk, food, counselling and free access to early childhood education so that children get the care they need to thrive.
  • We also support children to find or return to family biological, kin, Foster or adoptive!

We Want Hope, Healing And Justice For All Children. 

ABUSED & EXPLOITED
CHILDREN

We believe in a child protection system that ensures that all of the community and schools have the knowledge and tools they need to care for abused and exploited children.

  • We make sure everyone knows how to report abuse and stand up for the rights of children to access the help they need.
  • We ensure that abused girls and those that have become mothers have access to safe family care.
  • We prevent the exploitation of children in orphanages and ensures that children in need of care, are protected and safe.

We operate from our
Early Childhood developement (ECD) center

At the heart of Pamoja Leo is our ECD Center. Our center is a place of healing, learning and comfort located in Tanga City in the North East of Tanzania. We have a free daycare and preschool that provides:

  • FREE Montessori inspired, play based education
  • Trauma informed support for children ages 1-7
  • 2 meals a day plus snacks.
  • Counselling and home visiting support
  • Training and learning for parents and caregivers.

FAMILY FIRST

A World Where There Is A Family For Every Child

Formula Milk

Giving formula milk to babies whose mums have died and supporting them in a family to raise them. Preventing malnutrition and orphanhood

Day Care

Free Montessori education centre for children 2-6. Providing food, health check-ups and counselling for children living in poverty who’ve lost their parents, living with HIV, or at risk of family separation

FOSTER CARE

A network of 100+ volunteer foster parents have been trained in Tanga Region by Pamoja Leo & the local government to be safe, temporary placements for children in any need of care.

REUNIFICATION

We help children living in orphanages to go home to a family. We train orphanages on reunification, adoption and fostering as well as work to trace and address the issues in biological families so children can return home safely.

PROJECT HOPE

Supporting Girls to report and recover from abuse.

Protecting girls & young mums

The Hope Fund specifically funds girls that have experienced sexual violence to find a home, hope and healing. With this fund we are able to support these girls so they can get all the skills they need to have a fantastic start in life.

 

PREVENTING
EXPLOITATION

Supporting children exploited by orphanages through orphanage trafficking or other forms of exploitation in care. We do this through systems strengthening, such as our TCSS database in partnership with the Tanzanian Government.

STANDING FOR
OUR RIGHTS

Our Girls4Girls program funded by BFSS educating over 500 girls about their rights and how to recognize and report abuse. BFSS have supported Pamoja Leo to work with 5 schools in Tanga to deliver this program between 2020-2023

We are ADVOCATING TO CHANGE THE way children are cared for in tanzania

THE OLD MODEL

  • Removes children from family and community setting and places them in orphanages.
  • Unable to meet children’s developmental needs and is globally recognised as harmful.
  • Leaves children disconnected to family & community once they are older.
  • Doesn’t address the root of the issue why they were removed from the family.
  • Not a permanent solution.

  • We Invest in local women and local solutions, on the premise of: fill homes that exist, not build orphanages.
  • Permanent, sustainable, scalable and child centered solutions.

  • Participation in high-level policy meetings, local and international coalitions and contributing to learning platforms.
  • Case Management Systems development & implantation in the Tanga Region using DHIS2 system.
  • Advocating and taking action against illegal orphanages, harmful volunteering practices and prevention of violent behavior towards children.
