It will be run by 4 Mamas who will be trained to deliver the classes to a high standard and give the tourists a great experience. The tourists will learn how to cook Tanzanian food in the traditional methods, including making chapatis, maharage (bean stew), coconut & vegetable curry and the infamous Ugali. All profits made after paying the staff's wages will go to Pamoja Leo to continue to support vulnerable children and their families. Children attend the centre every day and this will be a huge asset. We want to utilise used tyres to make a creative and fun space for the children to play in every day. We also plan on making a swing set (also using the tyres) and football area. The children that come to our day centre live in an area with no green space to play and certainly no playground. When they come to Pamoja Leo we want to give them the childhood that we believe everyone should have where they can play with their friends and learn at the same time.If you can help us to finish our playground then it will give a lot of children a great space to have fun and above all a safe space to play in.Electric Sewing Machines21 YEARSupply of fabric & materials includedMamas Employed2Training provided100%7Hotels & shops waiting to sell the productsNG PROJECTSEWING PROJECTSPROJECT COSTS£1,200 The sewing project called Mama & Toto will be run from HQ and will provide employment for 2 mamas as well as an income for Pamoja Leo.The training we will provide will give them a skill for life and a great opportunity to earn a living for themselves and their families. The mamas will produce a range of children's clothes made from traditional Tanzanian materials that have already been market tested with our pilot project in 2016. THE MAMAPRENEUR FUND £50TO SPONSOR 1 MUM/CAREGIVERUnfortunately there are some families that due to social factors are unable to feed their children properly. This is NOT due to neglect or abuse, but extreme poverty and ill health. In these cases, we would like to be able to intervene more heavily and provide lunch for these children so they can reach a healthy weight. EMERGENCY FOOD FUND"For example, we have a 4 year old girl who weighs what an average 20 month old baby should weigh" £50Hosts family planning, nutrition & parenting classes. Under what circumstances do we consider a child to be vulnerable? Children with no living mother and fatherChildren living with an elderly relativeChildren being brought up by another childChildren living with disability or illness such as HIV or sickle cell anaemia.Pamoja Leo is open 6 days a week and offers a safe space for children and their caregivers. From here we run our Early Years Education project, gardening projects, chicken projects and our general operations to keep the charity moving full steam ahead. The Children's Centre is the lifeblood of Pamoja Leo and is vital to our success in Tanzania. We focus on vulnerable children because they often miss out on early years’ education because it often costs more than these families can afford. "Education at an early age is essential for children to thrive and succeed as they move onto primary school" (UNICEF, 2013) 2040School timetable8am - 1pm1 + 11 portion of porridge and 1 piece of fruit a dayEARLY YEARS EDUCATIONOne of the biggest reasons for children ending up in orphanages is the promise of a better donor sponsored education. We don't want to see children being split from their families so we do what we can to avoid this ever happening by giving a free, quality education to the most vulnerable children encouraging their right to be heard, play in a safe environment, feel safe, fight stigma, develop leadership skills and above all learn about the world around them. We use Montessori techniques, to create a child focused environment which means no traditional copying letters and repeating the alphabet. Children learn through play and interaction with the world together with specialist toys our teacher makes to help them learn. Children are encouraged to think about what really impacts them and their communities & we challenge them to think about what power they have to make changes happen. Most importantly we teach every child about their rights such as: you have a voice & to be free from harm. Clubs will be set up in 5 schools in 2017/18 to expand this project and see what other issues these children want to address. Walk to nearest primary school2 HOURS2 YEARSBehind a child will be who does not attendMamas volunteering to run the project2Portions of porridge served in a year9,60043kmFrom the nearest townSCHOOL READINESS PROJECTThe School Readiness Project provides a service for remote villages where the primary school is too far away for children to walk to because they are too small. For example, we would provide education services for a child who is supposed to start primary school at aged 6 but her school is 2 hours walk away and she is not strong enough to make the 2 hour walk there and back every day.If she didn't receive our services, she may have gone to school aged 8 and would have been years behind her peers. Instead, she will still go to school aged 8 but she will be academically on par if not ahead of her peers as a result of our intervention. We work very hard to form strong relationships with the village leaders and parents to ensure there is 100% buy-in from all parties. They have to put forward 2 volunteers to work alongside our teacher to ensure we can make this as sustainable as possible. We provide training for the volunteers as well as their village leaders to identify and help vulnerable children and families in their communities.Next >
